Eye Clean Diamonds and Diamond Clarity: IGTV Educational Series
Click to Watch
An 'eye clean diamond' is a phrase you might hear often when shopping for your engagement ring. By our definition, this is when viewing a diamond face-on from a distance of about 6 to 12 inches, you cannot visibly see any natural inclusions or blemishes within the gemstone. This would be without any magnification.
In this video we go over what to look for in an 'eye clean diamond' and how to avoid having a center-stone that has a distracting inclusion that may take attention away from an otherwise beautiful ring. Some topics we cover here are:
Different types of inclusions and which ones may be more visible than others based on a GIA plot
Not relying solely on the GIA plot of a diamond and verifying that you can or cannot see the inclusions with the naked eye.
Various shapes or cuts tend to either hide or display inclusions better/worse than others
Larger center-stones show inclusions easier because everything is magnified
Be wary of cloudy or milky diamonds, which may appear eye clean but because they have so many tiny inclusions (which you cannot see with your naked eye) it will inhibit the light travel within the stone and make it appear cloudy or hazy
Be sure to watch this video in its entirety to learn more about diamond clarity and help yourself select the perfect center-stone for your one of a kind engagement ring
